The Foot & Hair Clinic is currently on hold post-pandemic – info below describes how the program used to be administered
We began in l991 with three nurses providing comfort foot care to the guests of St. Joseph’s House. The purpose has always been to care for the very worn feet of our guests while getting to know one another. We also provide much-needed haircuts and those who receive foot care are given a new pair of socks. We usually provide Foot Clinics 3 or 4 times in the late Fall and early Winter months. These are the services we provide ~
- Foot Wash & Soak
- Foot Massage
- Nail clipping and callous scraping by registered nurses
- Medications for such common conditions as foot fungus
- Simple wound care

The main focus of what we do is Relationship building, as the volunteer washes and massages the feet, conversation goes on. Each gets to know something about the other.
Who Provides Our Care? VOLUNTEERS!
Currently we have a wonderful Podiatrist who is usually there and a handful of registered nurses. Most of our volunteers have no connection with the medical field but have always wanted to provide hands-on foot care to those in need. These volunteers are high school students, senior citizens and everything in between! The care is simple to provide and all are welcome.
What Do We Need?
- Financial donations to maintain our supplies of socks, lotions, hair cutting tools. Any financial donation needs to be specifically marked “For the Foot Clinic”
- Volunteers, “Goodie Bags” – baggies filled with a few toiletries such as toothpaste, lotion, toothbrush, soap, etc., Socks
