Hospitality at St. Joe’s-  Our House Lunch & Supper Programs

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat...” Matthew 25

When do we open?

Our doors open each morning, Monday thru Saturday at 9 AM.  (In the months of July and August, we are not open on Saturdays.)

What will our guests find?
Already set out is a large pot of coffee or black tea; sometimes even something to snack upon: bagels, donuts or slices of  raisin bread...
The television is set up high so that all can view. It is usually playing some  cable show -- such as “Walker, Texas Ranger” or “ER” or perhaps a film on AMC.  Playing Cards are available for guests. “Casino”.  The “Democratic Chronicle”, Rochester’s daily newspaper, is available and shared. Also there is a telephone for making local calls.
Tickets for lunch are counted and handed out at around 10 AM.

What do our volunteers do?
The volunteers who assist in the kitchen  usually arrive here around 9 or 9:30.  They make peanut butter & jelly sandwiches for take-out lunches for those guests who are employed and need to leave early, or who have missed the seating at 11:30 or noon.

How many guests can we serve?
The dining room has 8 round tables with six chairs each.  A full seating is 48, and usually we can accommodate 2 seatings- 11:30 AM and 12 Noon.

The Sunday Supper program is a group effort of Saint Joe's and the First Unitarian Church of Rochester.
The Sunday Supper idea germinated from the mind and heart of a teenager, which proves that no matter your age, you can accomplish great things for people in need.
